Enabling Data-Mesh at Allianzdirect

Client Overview:

Allianzdirect is a B2C subsidiary of Allianz Insurance, directly dealing with customers in regards to Auto and Home Insurance. KYD Analytics was brought in for 2 major purposes.

Current Stack: SSIS, PowerBI, ALM Toolkit.

Implemented Stack: Databricks, PowerBI, ALM Toolkit, PowerApps, React.

Challenges Faced:
  • Slow Datawarehouse: Allianzdirect worked with an Enterprise Data Model based on the star schema. This started off great but as the model became bigger and bigger, things started breaking more and more.
  • Centralised Structure Causing Bottlenecks: Due to the nature of the Enterprise Data Model in SSIS, if there was a break the whole model would be stuck without new data causing delays for the business.
  • Disconnect with Brokers/Agents over Commissions: The current reporting infrastructure was not supporting the agents by providing them with an updated report of their commission so they have a clear overview of how much they have earned and how much they want to sell more.
Solution:

KYD Analytics B.V. collaborated closely with the Data Team at Allianzdirect to build a Broker Portal for their agents and building a Data Mesh Infrastructure to address the delays in the current Enterprise Data Model:

  1. Infrastructure as Code: Facilitate the building of a decentralised Data-Mesh infrastructure designed by the inhouse team at Allianz.
  2. Broker Portal: Build Frontend Reports to be used in the custom portal created by the broker portal team.
Results Achieved:
  • Organisation Wide Data Access: The decentralisation of the Enterprise Data Model helped empower the teams to be responsible for their own data and enable them to process their data using the Infrastructure built by the Data Team, leading to each team having their own dedicated Data Owner to make sure their data and logic is correctly implemented.
  • Broker Portal: Implemented a Broker Portal using React and PowerBI Embedded after implementation with PowerApps seemed unpolished. Brokers were able to access their filtered data using Row Level Security implemented in the portal through Single Sign on. Enabled the brokers to upsell and reach their targets easily.
